Sterling Investment Partners-backed Verdantas acquires Sherwood Design Engineers

Verdantas, a technical consulting firm for the environment, water and energy transition markets, has acquired Sherwood Design Engineers, a civil engineering and sustainable infrastructure firm headquartered in San Francisco. Founded in 2003, Sherwood works on climate resilience, ecological restoration, water resources and urban development, and has eight offices across the United States and Latin America.

Verdantas is a portfolio company of Sterling Investment Partners. Sherwood's founder and CEO Bry Sarte said the combination gives the firm more scale and resources. Verdantas CEO Jesse Kropelnicki said the deal expands the firm's integrated solutions, and Sterling managing partner James Soldano described Sherwood as a complementary addition.

The deal expands Verdantas' presence in California, New York and Atlanta and adds Sherwood's Costa Rica operation. 2020 Environmental Group served as exclusive M&A adviser to Sherwood. The value of the transaction was not disclosed.
