Empresas Polar acquires Ricos Products, originator of concession nachos

Ricos, a fifth-generation San Antonio snack maker of nacho cheese, chips and popcorn, sold to Venezuela's Empresas Polar; terms undisclosed.

Empresas Polar, the family-owned Venezuelan food and beverage company, said its subsidiary Alimentos Polar International, Inc. has acquired Ricos Products Co., a San Antonio family business that markets and supplies nacho cheese sauce, chips, popcorn and other products to retailers and concession stands worldwide. Terms were not disclosed.

Ricos will keep its operations and management team in place and remain headquartered in San Antonio. Ricos CEO Tony Liberto said the Liberto family found in Empresas Polar a steward that shares its heritage as a family-built food company. Empresas Polar CEO Lorenzo Mendoza said the company would invest in Ricos' continued growth.

The deal builds on Empresas Polar's presence in the United States, which dates to its 2010 acquisition of a Florida production facility. BofA Securities and Norton Rose Fulbright advised Ricos. Balandra Capital and Skadden advised Empresas Polar.
