Vistra completes Cogentrix Energy acquisition from Quantum Capital
Cogentrix Energy operates 10 natural gas generation plants totaling about 5,500 MW, which Vistra bought from funds managed by Quantum Capital Group.
Vistra Corp. (NYSE: VST) has completed its acquisition of Cogentrix Energy from funds managed by Quantum Capital Group, following receipt of all required regulatory approvals.
The assets sit in PJM, ISO New England and ERCOT. Combined with Vistra's existing fleet, the company says its generation portfolio reaches nearly 50,000 MW across the U.S. Vistra cited its earlier acquisitions of Energy Harbor in March 2024 and seven natural gas plants from Lotus Infrastructure Partners in October 2025 as evidence of its integration record. CEO Jim Burke said the Cogentrix assets are a strategic fit for the company's generation growth.
