Environ Energy acquires utility bill auditor Vurge
Kansas City-based Vurge audits utility bills for electric, gas, water and wastewater accounts; the deal is Environ's second utility audit acquisition this year.
Environ Energy announced its acquisition of Vurge, a Kansas City-based utility bill auditing and cost recovery firm. The deal includes Vurge's subsidiary, Managed Energy Solutions, which works with manufacturers on energy savings and sustainability programs.
Vurge reviews electric, natural gas, water and wastewater bills to identify billing errors, tariff misapplications, metering discrepancies and other recoverable charges. Environ said the purchase follows its earlier acquisition of Utility Rates Analysts and more than doubles its utility auditing capacity, and that it is its fourth acquisition in 2026.
Environ CEO Chris Sternberg said Vurge's clients have received measurable financial results. Vurge founder and CEO Vlad Kaufman said joining Environ would let the firm serve Environ's more than 8,000 clients.
