Western Microsurgical acquires Q Surgical and Proficient Surgical

Two regional surgical microscope service providers serving hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers in California, Nevada and the Northeast join the HealthEdge-backed platform.

Western Microsurgical, a portfolio company of HealthEdge Investment Partners, has announced the acquisitions of Q Surgical and Proficient Surgical. The deals expand the company's platform as an independent service organization and provider of surgical microscopes, operating room products and supplies to hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. Q Surgical was founded in 2009 and Proficient Surgical in 1996.

Western Microsurgical also took over the Leica Microsystems sales and service contract previously held by Shawnee Medical in two states. The company says the combined business now provides surgical microscope sales and service across 18 states in the western and northeastern United States. The owners of Q Surgical and Proficient Surgical retained meaningful ownership in the combined company and remain involved in its operations.

Brian Bedrick, founder and CEO of Western Microsurgical, said the partners share strengths in product knowledge, relationships and responsive service. Financial terms were not disclosed.
