OMERS takes indirect minority stake in La Trobe Financial
Canadian pension fund OMERS is buying an indirect minority interest in Australia's La Trobe Financial through a Brookfield vehicle, with Brookfield keeping majority control.
OMERS has agreed to take an indirect minority interest in La Trobe Financial, an Australian alternative asset manager, through a Brookfield private equity investment vehicle. Brookfield will keep majority ownership of the business, which it bought in 2022. Terms were not disclosed.
The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals. La Trobe Financial has grown assets under management to A$27bn since the Brookfield acquisition and has launched a US private credit product and an ASX-listed investment trust.
Brookfield private equity head of Australia Shiv Gupta said the OMERS investment reflects the strength of La Trobe's platform. OMERS global head of private equity Alexander Fraser said the deal shows the pension fund's ability to structure flexible investments and its commitment to Australia.
