Aerospace aftermarket consolidation continues as Airbus subsidiary Satair adds global used serviceable material (USM) sourcing and aircraft teardown operations with the acquisition of Unical Aviation from Platinum Equity.
Unical supplies aircraft parts and components to airlines, MRO providers, and other aerospace customers.
Through its subsidiary ecube Solutions, the company also handles aircraft storage, disassembly, and transition services, complementing its USM footprint.
The business was acquired by Platinum Equity in 2021, and over the subsequent four years underwent a broad operational transformation.
During Platinum’s ownership, Unical built a new leadership team of experienced aftermarket executives, upgraded its ERP system and introduced auto-quoting and e-commerce capabilities, and relocated its headquarters and MRO operations to a purpose-built facility.
Satair, part of Airbus, provides aftermarket parts supply and repair services.
The addition of Unical brings USM sourcing and aircraft disassembly in-house, aligning with Airbus’s aftermarket strategy.
Jefferies and Fifth Third Securities served as financial advisors to Unical, and ReedSmith provided legal counsel.
The transaction closed on May 11.
