Scotts Miracle-Gro completes purchase of Black Kow from Organics Management
Scotts Miracle-Gro has completed its acquisition of the Black Kow organic soil amendment brand from Organics Management after a January 2026 licensing deal.
ScottsMiracle-Gro has completed its acquisition of the Black Kow brand from Organics Management. The company had licensed the brand from January 2026 and then exercised its purchase option to bring Black Kow fully into its Gardens portfolio. Black Kow is known for its yellow bag and is described as the leading brand of naturally composted cow manure and organic soil amendments.
The company plans to expand Black Kow beyond its traditional eastern U.S. base into retailers nationwide, launch premixed organic potting, raised-bed and in-ground soils made with Black Kow compost in fiscal 2027, and add single-ingredient soil builders for do-it-yourself growers. CEO Nate Baxter called the deal a tuck-in acquisition under the company's SMG 2.0 growth plan and said it is expected to improve the leverage ratio and add to sales and profitability in year one. No purchase price was disclosed.
