LSEG agrees to buy Octus from Permira for $3.535 billion

Private credit data provider Octus, founded in 2013 and based in New York, is being sold by a Permira-advised fund to LSEG for $3.535 billion in cash.

LSEG has agreed to acquire Octus, which collects hard-to-obtain documents such as financial covenants and transaction terms for private loans made by non-bank lenders and organizes them into searchable data. The deal is valued at $3.535 billion in cash, about 554.85 billion yen, and is expected to close in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approval.

The seller is a fund advised by Permira, together with management including the founders. Octus has more than 750 corporate clients and over 40,000individual users, and is widely used by hedge funds and alternative asset managers. The funds for the purchase will come from external borrowing.

LSEG plans to handle both publicly traded corporate bonds and loans and private loans on the same platform, extending its offering into an area where it had previously been underserved.
