Laureate unit UPC acquires Peruvian university UCAL
Universidad de Ciencias y Artes de América Latina, a Peruvian higher education institution, is acquired for about $35 million, including about $25 million of campus real estate.
Laureate Education, Inc. said its Peruvian subsidiary Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) acquired all of the capital stock of Universidad de Ciencias y Artes de América Latina (UCAL) on November 5, 2026. The purchase price is approximately $35 million, which includes campus real estate valued at about $25 million. UCAL will become part of UPC after an integration process.
The deal expands UPC's presence in Metropolitan Lima, where Laureate said demand is strong but options to grow the existing campus are limited. The acquired campus currently serves nearly 2,500 students and can accommodate about 5,000.
Laureate operates five higher education institutions across Mexico and Peru, enrolling more than 500,000 students. The company is listed on NASDAQ under the ticker LAUR.
