RFE-backed ZRG adds Sterling Martin Associates
The acquisition adds specialized association and nonprofit search expertise to ZRG’s Education, Nonprofit & Social Impact practice, bringing in founder David Martin and a team across Washington, DC, Chicago, and Denver.
RFE-backed talent advisory firm ZRG has deepened its Education, Nonprofit & Social Impact (ENSI) practice with the acquisition of Sterling Martin Associates, a Washington, DC-based executive search firm focused on professional associations, trade organizations, and mission-driven nonprofits.
Founded in 2006 by David Martin, Sterling Martin has built long-standing client relationships with national associations and nonprofits, including the National PTA, the Society for Neuroscience, and the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges.
The firm operates from locations in the Washington, DC area, Chicago, and Denver, giving ZRG a wider geographic reach in its ENSI practice.
David Martin joins ZRG as a managing director alongside his consulting team.
Rosa Morris, who leads the ENSI practice, said the firm adds dedicated association expertise and judgment earned over time, supporting boards through complex leadership transitions.
ZRG, which is backed by private equity firm RFE, described the deal as advancing its disciplined growth strategy.
CEO Larry Hartmann noted that Sterling Martin’s credibility in sectors where leadership decisions carry lasting consequences aligns with the platform’s focus on mission-driven organizations.
The transaction integrates Sterling Martin’s client base into ZRG’s data-driven platform while maintaining continuity for existing clients, the company said.
