Compassus adds Providence Home Health & Hospice (Oregon operations)

The deal carries a five-year, $30 million Oregon investment commitment and state conditions tied to access, community benefits and underserved communities.

Compassus acquired a 50% stake in Providence Home Health & Hospice (Oregon operations), adding Oregon home health and hospice services to Providence at Home with Compassus, with Towerbrook Capital Partners backing the buyer.

The state approval allows Compassus to manage the Oregon operations through an equal joint venture with Providence Health System.

The Oregon business provides home health, hospice, palliative care and private duty nursing services for patients requiring home-based and end-of-life care.

Conditions attached to the approval include a $30 million investment over five years to sustain agencies and continue services statewide.

The arrangement also requires Providence Home Health & Hospice’s Oregon community benefit programs to continue, including grief support for families of children receiving hospice care and whole-person medical care for people living with serious illness.

The broader Providence at Home with Compassus partnership includes 24 home health locations across four states, plus 17 hospice and palliative care sites in Alaska, California, Oregon, Texas and Washington.

Compassus is a portfolio company of Towerbrook Capital Partners and Ascension Health.

The company provides home health, home infusion, palliative care, hospice care, advanced care management and skilled nursing facility-at-home services across 30 states, with about 7,000 employees caring for more than 120,000 patients annually.

Providence Health System is a nonprofit faith-based health system with 51 hospitals and 1,000 clinics across Alaska, California, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas and Washington.

The Oregon review followed earlier implementation of the Compassus-Providence home-based care venture in four other states.
