Strategic Value Partners Secures Full Ownership of Birdsboro Power
The acquisition consolidates ownership of the 485-megawatt natural gas plant in PJM, where growing data center demand drives power needs.
Surging power demand from electrification and data center growth in the PJM interconnection is spurring investor moves.
Strategic Value Partners has agreed to acquire the remaining equity interests in Birdsboro Power from Sojitz Birdsboro and Tokyo Gas America, moving to full ownership of the 485-megawatt natural gas combined-cycle facility.
SVP Funds first took a one-third stake in May 2025 and have served as Managing Member since then.
The Birdsboro plant, commissioned in 2019, is built around GE’s 7HA.02 gas turbine and achieves a top-decile heat rate of approximately 6,300 Btu/kWh.
It supplies dispatchable generation to the PJM grid and is considered one of the most efficient modern gas generators in the region, sitting in a market that continues to see growing load from data center development and electrification.
The asset has been operated jointly by SVP and EverGen Power, a power generation acquisition and asset management platform formed and backed by SVP Funds in 2024.
Since SVP’s initial investment, the team has worked to improve commercial and operational performance and extend the facility’s strong operating track record.
Full ownership is expected to allow further value creation at the site.
CIBC and Davis Polk & Wardwell advised SVP and EverGen.
Sojitz Birdsboro was advised by PEI Global Partners and Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky & Popeo.
SVP manages approximately $22 billion in assets and has deployed more than $57 billion of capital since its founding in 2001.
