26North Re buys Independent Insurance Group
Creates a first onshore insurance platform for the reinsurer, adding a U.S. carrier dedicated to structured settlement annuities.
Structured settlement annuity carrier Independent Insurance Group, operator of Independent Life Insurance Company, is being acquired in full by 26North Re.
Independent Life Insurance Company is the only carrier dedicated exclusively to issuing structured settlement annuities for personal injury claimants and their families.
The transaction brings 26North Re into the U.S. insurance market and creates its first onshore platform, complementing existing Bermuda- and Cayman-domiciled operations.
Terms were not disclosed; Kirkland & Ellis advised 26North Reinsurance Holding Company on the definitive agreement.
