Carlyle buys Korean water-purifier group Chung Ho Nais

The roughly $644 million deal takes 100% of the appliance-rental platform and its filter affiliates, in a sale driven by founder succession; close is expected in Q3.

Carlyle agreed to acquire Chung Ho Nais, one of Korea’s largest water purifier and home appliance rental companies, in a transaction valued at just over 1 trillion won, or about $644 million.

The deal covers 100% of Chung Ho Nais and its affiliates, including filter maker Microfilter and parts supplier MCM, which together generate annual revenue above 700 billion won.

The sale follows the death of founder Joung in June 2025 and the family’s resulting inheritance-tax obligations.

Carlyle plans to broaden the product lineup, including direct-flow purifiers, and push overseas growth.

The acquisition is expected to close in the third quarter.
