Healthcare-focused private equity firm Lorient Capital has made PeterMD its latest platform investment, capitalizing on the $500 million Lorient Healthcare Fund III it closed in July 2025 to back founder-led healthcare companies.

The acquisition extends Lorient’s strategy of targeting lower middle-market healthcare businesses, typically with enterprise values between $20 million and $150 million.

The $500 million Fund III represents a substantial step-up from Lorient’s first healthcare fund, which closed at $122 million in 2019, reflecting the firm’s growing track record in the sector.

The move follows a series of active transactions for Lorient.

In May 2025, the firm exited its portfolio company Behavior Frontiers, a national autism therapy provider, through a sale to NexPhase Capital.

That exit highlighted the sponsor’s ability to scale founder-led platforms and generate returns through operational improvement and strategic growth.

Lorient, with offices in Birmingham, Michigan and Naples, Florida, manages more than $700 million in committed capital.

The firm expanded its team in early 2025 with the addition of Stephanie DeGennaro as General Counsel and John Cotcher, reinforcing its capacity to execute and support new platform investments.

PeterMD now joins Lorient’s portfolio, which benefits from the firm’s operational resources and growth capital approach.

While details about PeterMD’s business were not disclosed, the investment aligns with Lorient’s focus on healthcare services and products.

The buyer did not disclose financial terms of the transaction.
